Today was our last morning in the city of Belfast. We were picked up by our black taxi tour guides and departed on our long extensive tour journey. They took first us to the neighborhoods that was home to the peace wall and the infamous murals. This topic we be addressed further in the next blog however, this one will be mostly focusing on a summary of today's events. After visiting and getting a brief history by our tour guides, we departed once more. We drove for a ways, admiring the beautiful landscape that seemed to stretch endlessly before us, just an unending scene of green. And sheep, clusters of sheep everywhere.
Our first stop was the dark hedges. This spot was originally a very extravagant driveway that lead to a mansion down the road. However nowadays it serves as a regular road, though very pretty. It was also apparently used in a scene of Game of Thrones, as is most of the show, which makes sense considering the natural landscape beauty that they're dealing with.
We continued on to find ourselves adjacent to the sea. One of the places we stopped at was a perfect picnic area that was a cliff drop off area leading to the sea. Also a fun spot that we could see Scotland on in the distance. We drove further down till we arrived at an area called Giants Causeway, which was a popular tourist area because of the unique rock formations. These specific formations are actually hexagonal basalt formations that jut out into the sea. They were incredibly odd to see as polygons our not terribly common in nature, outside of crystals. The entire area was lush and green with a plethora of color contrast with green from the hills, red from the dirt, and blue from the sea and sky.
As one of our last stop we went to Dunluce Castle, where we were unable to explore the actual castle as it had closed but were able to explore the surrounding area in depth. This gives a brief but descriptive summary of our day, and other blogs will follow with a little more detailed info.
